Projects & Grants

1. Photo Digitization Project- A major conservation project initiated in December 2007 with grant monies. The museum curates three collections of nitrate cellulose negatives (Chester Stevenson, Kennell Ellis and Elizabeth Romane) in a building without proper climate controls. Some 20,000 negatives are being digitized at high resolution and a smaller version provided for online access. To date almost 13,000 images have been processed and over 12,000 are already accessible online. Grant funders include: Oregon Cultural Trust, Oregon Heritage Commission, and Trust Management Services. The project is ongoing and expected to be completed in October 2012.

2. Don Hunter Project. This project was initiated in July 2010 and involves the gift of over 250,000 images from the collection of the University of Oregon’s retired audio-visual head, Don L. Hunter. A database is being prepared from Mr. Hunter’s records (beginning in February 1938!). This project is expected to become grant-funded in the future and will involve a probable satellite processing location.
